Sailboat owners will love this version of their longtime favorite, Shakespeare’s Style 5215. Its the same light weight, low-profile, stainless steel antenna, specially designed for masthead mounting and built with extra bandwidth for all popular AIS transceivers.
Automatic identification systems (AIS) are used to automatically identify and track ships and other watercraft by electronically exchanging data with other ships, AIS base stations and satellites. This technology is used for collision avoidance, fishing fleet monitoring and control, vessel traffic services, maritime security, search and rescue, etc.
Quality Shakespeare® Marine AIS antennas are available in various styles and sizes to match our other VHF-style antennas. Reach and antenna mounting guidelines for AIS antennas are very similar to a traditional VHF antennas: Tall AIS antennas mounted on larger ships can provide an effective range of about 60 nautical miles (111 Km) when paired with an appropriate AIS system, while smaller antennas mounted on small vessels can extend effective communication to roughly 5 nautical miles (9 Km).
